argh im so frustrated! Hysteria by Muse is stuck in my head, particularly the guitar solo in the middle. its such a simple solo, but i cant play it without the tabulature!! i try not to look at tabs cuz i dont think its a good way to learn. sighh. i guess im used to playing by hearing, so its frustrating not to know the guitar fretboard well enough to know where the notes are. i have the melody stuck in my head and i hate having to rely on tabs to figure out how to play. i think the best way to learn is to familiarise yourself with the fretboard, and then you'll be able to play anything as long as you know the melody. Of course theres alot more to consider like speed, and other techniques like bending,vibrato blah blah that add colour to the music, but im talking about basic melody lines here.
Yus and i were talking about the violin and he asked how i knew where all the notes were when there's no fret differentiation unlike guitar, and the violin "fretboard" is so much narrower. i was thinking about the years spent playing the violin and i realised that all those mundane exercises like scales, chromatics, arpeggios really helped build a strong foundation. And that way even after not playing for 4 over years, i can still remember how to play. i guess the bottom line is if i really want to be a good guitarist there's no two ways about it. i have to build that foundation again, even if it means doing finger exercises to build speed and familiarity. Yus used to practise for 3 hours every day when he first picked up the guitar. He's playing professionally everywhere now. His story is quite inspiring cuz he had no music/ theory background so he got to where he is by sheer hard work. hahaa ok sorry for rambling. just typing what im thinking.
Went dragon boating for the first time today as part of training for Curl'07. its quite fun, but the thing about canoeing/dragonboating/kayaking is that i always have the urge to jump out and just swim to shore after about one hour in the boat. hahaa i suck at paddling ok! The boat/canoe/kayak just doesnt move as fast as i'd like it to heh.
CS FOC ended on Friday. Beeg thank you to everyone who helped me in 'The Office' route for Fright Night. i dont know how many of them will get to read this, but to the cast of hungry ghosts (literally. We had quite an enjoyable time snacking while waiting for the freshies), Jun,Faiz,Pang,Boons,Chrystal,Sharon,Phillip,Faiz's friend(sorry name slips my mind, but still much appreciated!)..THANK YOU !!:) Didnt really get to know the freshies this time though. Was out sick for the first two days.Only went down on Wednesday night to check out Human Cluedo. Went to wala after that to celebrate Max's birthday. Timmy was playing, and omg power 98's Rozz and Ngak from Timmy are together! Thurs was spent preparing for fright night and fright night itself, which lasted till about 3am.
Only had about half an hour of sleep before heading straight to Ngee Ann primary which is in Kembangan!omg. Was sooo stoned during class. This is what happened when i decided to sit down with the class for a change. Usually ill be standing next to Yus while he teaches.

My favorite kid made my day again. Hes this little chindian boy who's potential heart-throb material hahaa. He volunteered to stay back after class to help me keep all the guitars even though school was over for him. When i asked him to go home and play he said its ok cuz he had alot of time after school. awww. adorable!
aiiight. im beat. Too lazy to upload pics, so you'll just have to contend with my words, words and more words for now:)
